What to expect
The famous Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks near Lamai are unusually shaped granite formations. Natural erosion created their forms. A local legend tells of an older couple shipwrecked while travelling to arrange a marriage, who became the rocks. That is folklore, not a documented account of their formation.
Visitor tip
There are two rocks: in one visitor thread, the second was missing from the photograph altogether. Look for both, without taking risks climbing over wet stone. Also try kalamae, the local sweet sold at the stalls.
Things to watch
Some guests find the attraction overrated and the stalls very touristy. Plan it as a short stop near Lamai rather than the highlight of an entire evening. Rocks can be slippery; a photograph is not worth a fall.
