Wat Khunaram
Wat Khunaram is known for its preserved monk and Buddhist setting. Visit from Blackjack with respect for its religious significance.
What to expect
The preserved body of monk Luang Pho Daeng is venerated in a glass case at the temple. He died in 1973; the seated meditation posture and sunglasses make this an unusual sight.
Understanding the place
The veneration relates to Buddhist ideas of impermanence. This is a religious site, not a chamber of horrors. Understanding that context makes a visit more meaningful and respectful.
Our visitor tip
Read the short background story before visiting, then allow yourself a quiet moment. On a southern island outing, the temple can be combined with other stops towards Lamai and Na Muang.
Things to watch
Real human remains are on display. Not everyone feels comfortable with that; explain beforehand, especially to children, and decide together. Take photographs discreetly and according to local rules; worshippers are not a photographic backdrop. A meeting or blessing from a monk is not a guaranteed visitor service.
Sources and visitor reports
Follow photography instructions and behave quietly around the shrine.
