Wat Sila Ngu
Wat Sila Ngu is known for its red temple architecture. Add this southern stop to a day exploring from Blackjack.
What to expect
Wat Sila Ngu is also called Wat Ratchathammaram or simply the Red Temple. Its red walls and sculpted decoration set it apart from the golden temple imagery of the north. It stands on the southeast coast near Hua Thanon.
The background
Its name is translated as Stone Snake Temple. Snake or naga motifs form part of its distinctive visual character.
Our visitor tip
Do not stop at a photograph of the façade: the interior reliefs deserve another look. Afterwards, explore the coastal side and decorated staircase, if access is open.
Things to watch
This is a compact cultural stop, not a vast temple city. Some visitors find its small size disappointing. If you come for details and sea views, your expectations will fit better. Watch for arriving vehicles at the entrance; dress and behave appropriately for a temple.
